For Maria

For Maria is a collaborative body of work in partnership with my grandmother. The work explores her fluctuant past through a series of images and a written letter, from my 60 year old grandmother, addressed to her 9 year old self. The words written in this letter operate as her voice; reflecting on the past, taking you through her journey.

​Through reminiscence, together, we have collaborated as grandmother and granddaughter to share the story of a survivor; giving an extraordinary women the opportunity to use her voice and share her story.​​

Granny, this project is dedicated to you, for your beauty in times of desperation is admirable, and may your voice never be taken away from you again.
